Berwyn District Civic Association Meeting
December 19, 2019
Meeting came to order at 7:07 p.m. Meeting held in Fealy Hall. BDCA Board Members in attendance: Bob Catlin, Chad Stern, Jim Nealis, Lily Fountain, Christy Dollymore, Tim Triplett, Karyn Keating. Other attendees included Richard Winston, Oscar Gregory, Liesl Koch, Kevin Young, Harvey Himmelfarb, John Dollymore, Aimee Olivo (Danielle Glaros rep.).
Guest speaker Christian Cerria from Gilbane Construction Co. discussed the planned new student apartment development at the current site of the College Park Burger King and neighboring lot on Rt. 1. The building will be called “Tempo”, and will have 7 floors at the north end, 8 floors at the south end due to elevation changes. It will have 296 units, with 986 beds, and 300 parking spaces. Each bedroom will have a separate bathroom, and current plans call for units with 1, 2, or 4 bedrooms. Parking will be under the building, shielded from view. A stylized “M” will be featured in the wall construction pattern on the side of the building. Amenities will include an extension of the 10’ wide hike/bike trail along Paint Branch, and the building will provide a bike repair facility and water bottle fill station at the back (SW) corner. A ‘pocket park’ will be on the southeast corner, possibly with a ‘pet washing’ station. The lower floor will have 1,084 square feet of retail space. The building will include three courtyards, one with a pool. However, the back of this building will not be accessible to fire trucks, which does raise some concerns.
Following this presentation, the BDCA hosted a Holiday Party, providing food, punch, desserts, and music.
The meeting ended at 8:50 p.m.
