BERWYN DISTRICT CIVIC ASSOCIATION

MEETING FEBRUARY 15, 2018

Meeting opened at 7:38 pm.

Parking Permit Public Hearing will be held on Feb 27th at 7:30 pm to discuss establishing permit parking on parts of Potomac and Tecumseh roads. The public can attend or watch the hearings on tv. If anyone would like to send comments to the Council, they should do so before the hearing to: cpmc@collegeparkmd.gov.

Bob Catlin reported that Lidl settled on the hotel property for $9.5M in January. The Fredericksburg Va store is having a grand opening this coming weekend.

TREASURER’S REPORT – We will have to get a Fed Tax ID#, which requires annual filings. Also, dues are now calendar year, Individual member dues are $10 and Family dues are $15. Bob Catlin moved to accept the Treasurer’s report and Tim Triplett seconded.

MUNROE DENNIS – PJ is planning a community cleanup on 2/24, volunteers will get t shirts and College Park swag.

Boy Scouts started a project along the trail installing planter boxes and benches, but the work has not yet been completed.

HOLLYWOOD BIKE TRAIL MEETING – will be held Wednesday at 7 pm to discuss the Greenbelt Rd and Rhode Island part of the trail.

DANIELLE GLAROS is holding a constituent meeting Monday 6 – 8 pm at Mod Pizza.

WEEKLY COFFEE CLUB is held most Wednesdays at 9:00 am at Jason’s Deli. PG County Police District 1 will be presenting crime stats and there will be discussions by the Fire Department and Rescue. They also try to get outside speakers each week when relevant. Examples are PG Co Dept of Social Services who will speak on domestic abuse and human trafficking.

OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – Sarah D’Alexander spoke about Good Neighbor Day which will be Saturday April 7, where students and community volunteers do beautification projects and other service to the community. Registration starts March 5 and some of the projects will be 1) Expand the permaculture garden near Greenbelt Rd and Tecumseh along the trolley trail 2) Projects at the College Park community Center and 3) Lake Artemesia.  There will also be a Park Run at Paint Branch Trail behind Rita’s. You can find more information at goodneighborday.umd.edu  A food drive will also be conducted.

Karyn Keating-Volke gave a short presentation on the current state of the Real Estate market.
